This classification specification describes the journey level of the Employee Benefits Technician classification flexibly-staffed series. Incumbents of this classification, under direction, enroll and provide ongoing assistance to Alameda County employees with benefits that include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability plans, Flexible Spending Accounts, County Allowance (Employer Credit), and other voluntary benefits, Vacation Purchase, Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other related leave plans, Commuter Benefit Plan; and perform other related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This classification is part of a two-level flexibly-staffed class series of the Employee Benefits Technician classifications. Incumbents in this position are located in the Employee Benefits Center of the Human Resource Services Department. Responsibilities encompass a variety of activities, such as providing benefits orientation and ongoing benefits assistance. The class of Employee Benefits Technician II is distinguished from the next lower one of Employee Benefits Technician I in that the former class is the journey level in the series and, under direction, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities with the further requirement for independent judgment and skill in the performance of all assignments. Employee Benefits Technician II’s are expected to work independently with less need for supervision.
This class series is further distinguished from the Employee Benefits Specialist in that the latter handles the more complex benefits administration duties and functions as a lead in the center.
