DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Positions in this class are found in the Human Resource Services Department. Incumbents are assigned duties of a well-defined nature and their work is subject to detailed and frequent review. The Human Resource Trainee class consists of incumbents initially working under close supervision while learning and performing technical and professional human resources duties. These positions will rotate through the Personnel Services, Labor Relations, Employee Benefits, Human Resources Information Technology, and the Disability Program and Training and Education Center divisions in order to expose incumbents to a diverse range of human resources functions. After six (6) months of intensive training/work experience in the Human Resource Services Department, trainees will spend an increasing amount of time onsite in their assigned departments. This position is an entry-level eighteen (18)-months flex classification into the higher class of Departmental Human Resources Officer (DHRO). Incumbents who have gained experience and completed at least twelve (12) months rotation throughout the various operational units, demonstrated an acceptable level of proficiency and have additional human resource work experience will be eligible to flexibly promote to the class of DHRO after twelve (12) months. After flexibly promoting to DHRO, the incumbents will be assigned human resource duties specific to their assigned department. Supervision will be provided by a Labor Analyst II for their first six (6) months as a DHRO. After successful completion of the Human Resources Trainee program, supervision will be provided by the Labor Relations Manager if the DHRO position remains in Human Resource Services or from a departmental executive manager if the DHRO position moves to the operating department.
