DESCRIPTION
As assigned, on a part-time basis, to serve as a merit system examination monitor or chief proctor, or to provide specialized, expert, or technical skills or knowledge in connection with such examinations; to rate and score performance tests; to participate in interviews of candidates; and to provide other services as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Special Examiners are located in the County Personnel Department. This class includes technical experts recognized as highly qualified in their fields of endeavor who are appointed to act as consultants in examination preparation, in rating personal qualifications of candidates, in rating performance tests, or in other ways providing specialized knowledge for examination purposes.

Non-specialized examination assistants, such as monitors or group test administrators, are also included in this class, and compensation is based upon the service provided.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Gives technical advice on content of examination questions and helps prepare examination questions.

2. Rates quality of performance of candidates on performance tests.

3. Sits on oral boards examining or interviewing and evaluating candidates' knowledge, educational background, work experience, and personal qualifications for a given position.

4. Acts as administrator of a written examination or a performance test.

5. Acts as a monitor at an examination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience commensurate with the kind and difficulty-level of the service required; possession of any legally required licenses or certificates; and demonstrated ability to cope effectively with the problems involved in the assignment.
