DESCRIPTION
Under close supervision, to receive training in and perform the less difficult phases of administrative assignments; to assist various departmental administrative personnel by relieving them of administrative detail; to act as liaison with administrative personnel; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Positions in this class are found on the administrative staffs of various County departments. Incumbents are assigned administrative studies of a well-defined and limited nature. Their work is subject to detailed and frequent review, which lessens, as they become more experienced. With experience they are gradually assigned projects of greater scope and responsibility.

Incumbents normally work 1-3 years in this capacity. Positions in this class are of a temporary nature and assignments are to be terminated within a reasonable period of time after graduation from college or after 3 years of service as an intern.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Participates in assignments related to agency organization, procedures and budgetary requirements; gathers, tabulates and analyzes data for studies using computer programs; and draws organization, work distribution, and other charts.

2. Interviews and consults with departmental officials and personnel to give and obtain necessary information.

3. Assists in studies of intradepartmental operations.

4. Prepares analysis, reports, and recommendations upon individual request.

5. Assists departmental personnel by relieving them of administrative detail.

6. Dictates correspondence and drafts memoranda.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a bachelor's degree program; or current enrollment in a master's degree program, majoring in public administration, business administration, economics, or a closely related field. (A recent college graduate in these fields may begin or continue an internship, but the internship can not exceed three years total from date of appointment.)

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Knowledge of:

· Basic principle and aims of modern public administration.
· General principles of organization, administration, and management.
· Methods used in administrative analysis and budgeting.

Ability to:

· Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with others.
· Logical reasoning, drawing valid conclusions, and making appropriate recommendations.
· Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
· Gather, analyze, and organize data.
· Learn about and use computer systems and various software packages.
