DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, plans, coordinates, and evaluates safety program for County employees; assists in the review and risk assessment of County contracts, and does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This position is located in the Risk Management Division of the County Administrator's Department. It is distinguished from the class of Risk Manager in that it is focused upon the areas of employee safety and contract risk assessment and assists the Manager in other Risk Management program areas. The responsibility for and providing assistance to all County safety activities distinguishes this position from any specialized part time safety positions which may be located within other departments. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Reviews and evaluates proposed County contracts to assess potential risk issues inherent in the contracted services. Assesses insurance requirements and approves waivers as appropriate. 2. Provides direction, training and technical assistance to departments in the development and operation of programs aimed at loss reduction in the areas of employee safety, environmental disaster planning and security. 3. Designs and monitors accident investigation and reporting systems; reviews employee injury reports to determine accident factors and trends and recommends prevention actions. 4. Plans, recommends, and/or implements safety interest and motivation activities and programs; advises departments of available county and community resources and materials. 5. Designs and monitors facility and operations inspections. 6. Interprets and advises management on compliance with, applicable governmental safety rules and regulations including California general industrial safety orders. 7. Assists departmental safety officers to identify safety training needs and to organize safety training sessions. 8. Serves as secretary to the Central Safety Committee; administers the Safety Suggestion and Award Program; serves as secretary to the various sub committees. 9. Conducts investigations and facility inspections to identify both potential and actual exposures that could result in injury, illness or financial loss in the areas of employee safety and health, disaster preparedness planning, security and insurance valuation. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Experience: The equivalent of six years of recent, full time, and paid experience in risk assessment with an emphasis on employee safety in an organization involving a large employee group with multiple employees bargaining units. (Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university may be substituted for four years of the required experience). Or II Some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
