DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, to serve as the principal assistant to a member of the Board of Supervisors, to supervise and coordinate Board Member’s district staff; to manage the work of a Supervisor’s Office through subordinate staff; provide direction, training and work review to a staff working in support of a Supervisor; handle the more complex and sensitive administrative and public relations assignments of a Supervisor’s Office; act as a confidential representative on behalf of the Board of Supervisors; and perform other duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Positions in this class are located in the Board of Supervisors’ Office and serve as the main assistant to individual Board Members. Incumbents will be responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating all office management and administration of a Board of Supervisor’s district office through subordinate staff members. This position receives a wide variety of assignments which require knowledge of community interest and governmental functions and has considerable contact with community groups, officials, and individuals. One Chief of Staff position may be assigned to each of the Board of Supervisors. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Supervises or coordinates the work of the legislative and support staff; provides policy/procedure advice and direction to staff; may evaluate work and prepare performance evaluations. 2. Acts as office manager; determines operating needs, such as staffing and equipment, and takes appropriate action. 3. Confers with officials of various local, State and Federal agencies concerning proposed or pending legislation that might have an impact on assigned Supervisor’s constituents. 4. Represents the Supervisor at meetings, conferences and various functions, generally related to policy or issue development; makes speeches and presentations to community groups. 5. Serve as a liaison, coordinator and spokesperson with citizens, community groups, legislative/government agencies, the media and public and private organizations. 6. Investigates expressed concerns from the public; responds to individual requests for information on governmental functions. 7. Officially represents the Board of Supervisor when working with departments and other agencies. 8. Develops and recommends policies and procedures then implements, as approved. 9. Represent the Supervisor by serving on committees, attending meetings and by participating in events in the Supervisor’s absence. 10. Perform other duties as assigned. |
