DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, to operate and maintain microfilming, automatic film developing, duplicating and other related equipment; to duplicate film of documents, maps and other materials; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Microfilm Technician is the journey level of classification in the Microfilm series. Incumbents in this classification are expected to perform all duties relate dot the producing of copies of printed material on a large volume basis. This class is distinguished from Supervising Microfilm Technician by the latter’s responsibility for the coordination of the day-to-day operations of a microfilming center. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Film books, maps, and other documents using Planetary and Rotary “700” cameras. 2. Perform minor maintenance and adjustments on microfilm cameras and equipment, such as replacing light bulbs or balancing lights. 3. Operate microfilm reader to inspect microfilm. 4. Edit and splice film to remove microfilm images containing errors. 5. Keep records of work done and prepare a charge slip for departments based on number of documents and images filmed. 6. Insert film into film jackets. 7. Mark reel boxes to identify film content. 8. Lubricate and clean microfilm and other equipment; when necessary; prepare chemical solutions in connection with the work. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Experience: The equivalent of one year experience as a Microfilm Technician Trainee in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II Experience: The equivalent of eighteen months of experience in the operation of microfilm equipment, including set-up, adjustment of machines, and experience in film processing and duplicating. Some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |

Knowledge of: • Operation, adjustment and care of duplicating, camera and developing equipment. • Chemicals and materials used in the work. Ability to: • Operate and adjust automatic developing and duplicating machines and prepare and properly use developing and fixing mixtures. • Keep simple interrelated records. • Perform simple mechanical functions. • Follow oral and written instructions. |
