EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Internal Audit Department, which audits and investigates a wide variety of functions, processes, and activities of ACERA. 2. Review and approves the annual audit plan. 3. Leads the Department in evaluating internal controls to ensure the accuracy of financial records, compliance with laws and regulations, contract terms and conditions, and the efficiency and effectiveness of ACERA operations. 4. Prepares and presents periodic reports to the Board of Retirement’s Audit Committee on internal audit projects. 5. Issues and distributes audit reports to the Board of Retirement, appropriate levels of management and interested third parties, as applicable. 6. Assigns personnel to audits/projects and provides instructions covering the extent of the work to be done for the assignments. Reviews and approves audit reports prepared by staff to ensure completeness and accuracy. Approves staff developed recommendations for improved systems of internal control and, where appropriate, for changes in policies and procedures. 7. Performs special examinations as requested by the Executive Office, Board of Retirement, or appropriate management personnel. Oversees the investigation of employee misconduct or illegal acts that are reported or detected. 8. Selects and maintains a professional audit staff with sufficient knowledge, skills, experience, and professional certifications. Directs the personnel and activities of the Internal Audit Department, and is responsible of the Internal Audit Department, and is responsible for the development, evaluation and training of the audit staff. 9. Perform consulting services, beyond assurance services, to assist management in meeting its objectives. Examples may include facilitation, process design, training, and advisory services. |
