DESCRIPTION
Under direction of the County Librarian, responsible for the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive program to raise funds to support the operation and growth of the Alameda County Library; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

The class of Foundation Director is a single position classification located in the Alameda County Library. The incumbent reports directly to the County Librarian and is responsible for planning and preparing all development related activities and materials, including annual fund drives, endowment campaigns, corporate grants, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. The Foundation Director works closely with Administration and other staff to identify funding needs and assumes strong financial reporting and accountability. The incumbent works closely with the Board of Directors of the Library Foundation by providing direction. In addition, the incumbent may supervise a small support staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Provide direction and support for the Board of Directors of the Library Foundation.
2. Research and review Library Foundation policy; develop Annual Fund Plan for the Library Foundation Board of Directors; provide support to the Board in the form of reports, agendas, training and record maintenance; develop and maintain a proposed budget and maintain insurance and non-profit status for the Foundation.
3. Plan, develop and implement a variety of development campaigns; supervise development and maintenance of a database of major donors and systems of recording pledges and payments; cultivate and maintain donor relationships; assist Library staff with solicitations.
4. Supervise, design, maintenance and updating of web page content; creation of publicity campaign and development of direct mail program; design of publicity materials and direct mail pieces.
5. Research, identify and evaluate individual prospects, foundations, and corporations as potential donors; assist the County Librarian and the Library Foundation Board of Directors with soliciting prospective individual and corporate donors; participate in professional activities to keep informed of current developments in the field.
6. Oversee the development and production of Foundation newsletters and other communication tools; oversee gift acknowledgment and donor correspondence.
7. Supervise and train support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Resource Development, Communications, Business Administration or a closely related field. (Additional professional or paraprofessional administrative services experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.)

AND

The equivalent of five years full time successful management experience in fundraising and resource development, preferably for a non-profit organization.

Desirable: Accreditation as Certified Fund Raising Executive by CFRE International.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
