DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, performs all aspects of eligibility determination and/or maintenance for all public assistance aid programs (all aid categories) and related benefits based upon the needs of the clients; performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Eligibility Services Technician III is the advanced journey-level class in this flexibly staffed series. Incumbents can be assigned to any aspect of service delivery (e.g., in-house and community-based) performing eligibility determination and maintenance duties for all public assistance aid programs. Eligibility Services Technician IIIs do not have caseload standards. This class is distinguished from the Eligibility Services Technician IV in that the latter is assigned to the more complex and difficult functions requiring expertise and in-depth knowledge. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties as assigned. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Interviews applicants for public assistance aid programs by phone or in person; explains to recipients the conditions for continued public assistance; completes application forms and witnesses signatures; takes sworn statements from persons on the accuracy of their applications for public assistance; explains the agency’s limitations and the applicant’s responsibilities; computes initial budgets and makes recommendations on the granting of assistance. 2. Verifies initial and on-going eligibility factors and provides justification or a summary of the findings made from investigations; maintains electronic case records; maintains continuous eligibility review; and prepares correspondence as required. 3. Refers clients or cases to appropriate resources, e.g. Community based organizations, contractors, etc. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year of experience in the class of Eligibility Services Technician II in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II Experience: The equivalent of one year of experience within the last 3 years determining eligibility in a County Health and Human Services or Social Services Agency. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of: • Modern office practices and procedures, including business correspondence and filing and standard office equipment operation. • Provisions of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, the Social Security Act, and other pertinent legislation in the field of public welfare.
