DESCRIPTION
Under close supervision of an attorney, performs a variety of legal professional support functions designed to assist attorneys; and does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Legal Assistant Intermittents perform a variety of professional support functions to assist attorneys on an as-needed basis. They are expected to use initiative and independent thought in the performance of assigned tasks.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Serve legal process in criminal and civil cases, and perform other investigation tasks on non-criminal matters at the direction of the department.

2. Prepare legal memoranda in support of court motions, declarations, and prepare briefs for appellate matters; perform legal research on complex matters; prepares memoranda regarding contacts with clients and care providers for use by attorneys and for file documentation.

3. Assist attorneys in the preparation of cases.

4. May assist in conducting court hearings and/or make court appearances under close supervision of attorney; may conduct client interviews, provide legal support and communicate on the clients behalf with other attorneys or other necessary personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

The equivalent to graduation of a Bachelors degree at an accredited college or university (120 semester units/180 quarter units).

License:

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
