DESCRIPTION
|
Under close supervision, orders, issues, delivers, receives and warehouses supplies and equipment; maintains manual and computerized inventory records regarding minimum stock levels and rates of usage; moves furniture, office supplies and equipment within a County agency or department; and performs other related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The class of Supply Clerk I is the journey level class. Incumbents may perform the full range of supply, storeroom or warehouse duties for a facility supporting an office environment in a County agency/department and may be assigned to support an office services unit, a storeroom or several storerooms. Incumbents may do all of the receiving and delivering of supplies/equipment for any designated location in the County. Also, incumbents may be required to operate a variety of stock or warehouse moving equipment. Such positions are flexibly staffed, with the incumbent expected to develop the necessary skills for progression to the higher level by the completion of the six month training period. This class is distinguished from the next higher one of Supply Clerk II in that the latter class is the advanced journey-level position which has responsibility for a specialized inventory process and/or may act as a lead worker over two or more full-time supply personnel. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Receives office supplies, furniture and equipment stock that supports an office environment from outside vendors, checks for damage and quantity, determines whether orders conform with invoice; stores stock in accordance with previously established systems; provides input regarding minimum stock level; rates of usage, and may recommend minimum stock levels according to past usage. 2. Sets up stocks of supplies at one or more work locations. 3. Prepares statistical summaries of supply activities. 4. Takes physical inventory and maintains manual and/or computerized records of stock issued, received or surveyed, and on hand. 5. Operates equipment related to job, such as pneumatic tubes, dollies, hand and platform truck/carts, paper counters, shrink wrap, pallet jacks, roller conveyor, and forklift truck. 6. Prepares work orders/purchase requisitions, file, copy and maintain records for supply activities; obtains quotes on goods and services. 7. Uses common hand tools for assembly and minor repair of standard office equipment. 8. Delivers, sets up and places new furniture, moves used furniture and other heavy objects; assists with meeting and training room set-up and take down. 9. Receives and delivers general office supplies and equipment for various locations. 10. Performs inventory of fixed assets (furniture and equipment) in a County agency/department. 11. May prepare shipments of office materials for transport to property and salvage; arranges for shipper or parcel pick-up. 12. Ensures the orderliness and cleanliness of the work area or storeroom. 13. Escorts vendor, mechanical repair, maintenance and other visitors to secured areas of the office. 14. May operate duplicating machines in a central copy center to produce forms, manuals, and other documents; prioritizes jobs; adjusts settings and quantities and performs routine maintenance tasks; maintains production and cost records; operates related equipment such as hole driller, binder, paper cutter, and padding equipment; orders and maintains stock of paper supplies. 15. May operate a County vehicle in the performance of regular duties and/or transport County vehicle fleet for scheduled maintenance and service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of the knowledge, abilities and license as listed below:
License: Must be in possession of and maintain a valid unrestricted Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
