Under general direction, plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the Stores Division of the Purchasing Department; develops, implements and maintains an automated inventory management system and a comprehensive and effective storage and distribution program for the Stores Division; and does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The Manager, Stores Division, is the operating head of the Stores Division of the Purchasing Department, which consists of a large central store in Pleasanton, and a satellite facility in Oakland. The incumbent in this position operates under the general direction of the Deputy Director, GSA. The position is responsible for approximately 2,500 stocked items valued at $l,500,000.00. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the receipt, warehousing, issuance and distribution of all supplies and materials to County departments, offices, institutions, and special districts. 2. Determines the best storage facilities and locations for items stocked through analysis of use patterns and quantities of items stocked. 3. Assists in managing an automated inventory system by determining the minimum inventory quantities and the most economical order quantities for each item stocked, as well as a minimizing backorders or stockout conditions. 4. Establishes and maintains continuing liaison with buyers, suppliers, and using departments to determine items to be stocked, to control quality of purchases, and to assist using agencies in determining their needs and to take appropriate action to minimize obsolete inventory. 5. Develops systems and procedures to be followed in requisitioning, receiving, checking, storing, billing, and distributing the various types of materials, supplies, and commodities used in the County service. 6. Assumes responsibility for personnel matters within the Stores Division; interviews prospective employees, recommends on disciplinary matters and supervises the training of new personnel. 7. Submits reports and statistical data on the operation of the division; prepares and justifies annual budget for the division. 8. Supervises, through the Supervising Messenger, the County Messenger Service. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of two years of experience in the class of Storekeeper II in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II Experience: The equivalent of three years of inventory management/storekeeping experience which included responsibility for the management of a storekeeping operation comparable in level of responsibility to the County Stores Division. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicles Operator's License. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
