DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, to schedule jobs into the operational areas of the County printing facility; to coordinate assignments and track work through all the production phases; to inform departments of work progress; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This one position class is located in the Reprographics Division of the Purchasing Department in the General Services Agency. The Division provides layout and composition, camera reproduction, offset printing, and bindery services to various County departments. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Reprographics, this position is responsible for supervising staff, scheduling work orders, following up on orders in process, coordinating work orders in each section to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of job orders; responding to inquiries from departments regarding orders in process, and arranging for delivery of finished orders. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|

1. Assigns, coordinates, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate staff. 2. Receives and reviews printing requisitions to determine what sequence of operations are necessary to process orders expediently; assigns work to printing production sections based on the specifications outlined in the requisition; and coordinates production elements of Reprographics Division Sections to maintain reasonable completion dates of assigned work by following up on assignments issued within reasonable turnaround periods. 3. Inspects finished metal and film plates, printing, bindery work, and packaging at end of each operation to assure conformance with specifications, and adequacy of product for the next process in the printing operation. 4. Enters incoming work assignments on production control board to visually monitor progress of orders from receipt of requisition to finished product; maintains and updates production control board to reflect present job status of each order being processed. 5. Inspects metal plates submitted by requesting departments to determine if they are suitable for rerun, or if a new plate must be made; forwards finished metal plates suitable for rerun back to requesting department; and files court plates maintained by Reprographics numerically by court and requisition number. 6. Contacts customers for clarification of information needed to process printing orders; receives inquiries from customers regarding job status orders, and informs customers of projected completion dates. 7. Coordinates outside contractual services requirements with vendors and determines at what point of production the outside services will be needed to meet production schedules. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year of recent experience in production control in the printing or bindery field. Or II Any combination of education and appropriate experience that provides the knowledge and abilities listed below. Previous supervisory experience and/or supervisory coursework is desirable. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
