DESCRIPTION
|
Under instruction and close supervision, to learn and to do increasingly responsible and varied sub-professional and professional civil engineering work, and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The purpose of this class is to provide currently enrolled engineering students with summer work which will supplement their college program, and which will better qualify them for permanent professional positions with the County after their graduation. Incumbents are systematically given progressively responsible office and field assignments corresponding to their stage of professional development. Typically, a student with one year of college training, during the first summer of work, is assigned to a field crew to do rodding and chaining and to learn to use surveying instruments. A student who has completed three years of college, and has participated in the summer program for two previous summers, is usually assigned duties similar to those of an inexperienced professional engineer. |
