DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, to be in charge of a major engineering, construction, maintenance, or related activity; to help plan major engineering projects and to supervise the work of professional and sub-professional engineering personnel; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
Senior Civil Engineers have a continuing responsibility for the quality and quantity of the work of a unit, as well as other supervisory duties, as distinguished from the next lower level, Associate Civil Engineers, who generally have responsibility for projects. The unit under a Senior Civil Engineer is relatively homogeneous, whereas higher-level supervisors, such as Principal Civil Engineers, are responsible for several such units, covering a variety of functions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of one (1) year of experience in the classification of Associate Civil Engineer, or in an equivalent or higher engineering classification in the Alameda County classified service.
OR II
Education:
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in civil engineering.
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to becoming a Licensed Professional Engineer.
OR
The equivalent of four (4) years of progressively responsible, full-time professional civil engineering experience, at least two (2) years of which were in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
Certificate and License:
Possession of a valid License as a Professional Engineer issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California State Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
