Under general direction, the Public Art Program Coordinator assists in the coordination and implementation of the Public Art Program and a wide variety of activities for the Alameda County Arts Commission (ACAC).
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This classification reports to the Program Manager, ACAC. The incumbent supports the Program Manager, ACAC in administering and managing all aspects of the public art programs and other activities. This position is distinguished from the Program Manager, ACAC in that the latter classification, in close cooperation with the Executive Board Committee and Commissioners of the Alameda County Arts Commission, assumes overall responsibility for planning, organizing, and administering program activities for ACAC. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Assists in the coordination and administration of ACAC programs and related activities including arts advocacy and community outreach activities, arts funding program administration, arts education program administration, art exhibition and collection management, communications and promotional activities, and performs related work as assigned. 2. Develops and implements public art projects for county capital improvement projects involving the design and integration of artwork into the construction of public sites and buildings. 3. Manages public art projects at various stages of development (development of objectives and program parameters, writing request for qualifications and request for proposals, oversight of selection process, artist and community outreach). 4. Manages all phases of the design, fabrication and installation of the artwork. 5. Serves in a consultative role on art project designs, specifications, construction methods and materials to artists, the Arts Commission, and others as required. 6. Prepares a variety of correspondence, regular reports, meeting minutes, press releases, outreach materials, and other written materials. 7. Prepares and administers artist contracts; project payments, and monitors the program's budgets and correspondence. 8. Maintains close working relationships with other County departments and contractors (project managers, architects, construction contractors, designers, etc.). 9. Prepares and administers contract opportunities and contracting procedures for consultant services related to public art program and ACAC activities such as consultant fine art picture framer, art installer, graphic designer and videographer. 10. Conducts management of consultants' contracts including written and oral correspondence regarding contract compliance, and review and approval of completed work. 11. Assist with the coordination, inventory and maintenance of the County's collection of rotational artworks and temporary exhibitions in public spaces program. 12. Prepares and administers written and visual material for the ACAC website and other promotional items. 13. Plans and conducts administrative or operational studies; determines information gathering processes; obtains required information for analysis; evaluates alternatives and makes recommendations. 14. Prepares reports and makes presentations. 15. Conducts outreach activities to artists, appropriate arts organizations and community groups. 16. Organizes and maintains project files, visual documentation and historical records. 17. Plans and organizes public relations efforts and orchestrates all events related to project promotion. 18. Attends the Alameda County Arts Commission meetings, the Public Art Advisory Committee meetings and other community meetings as needed. 19. Acts for the Program Manager, ACAC in his/her absence. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in any of the following: Arts, Fine Arts, Art History, and Arts Administration. AND Experience: The equivalent of three years full-time professional experience in public arts programs, including experience working with the regional artists' community. (Additional experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.) NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
