DESCRIPTION
|
Under direction, to function as a supervisor of Public Works Inspectors (Facilities Option) performing the inspections of all Public Works owned and maintained properties and assets; to assist with or perform the more complex facilities inspections; to develop and manage necessary facilities inspections and maintenance/repair contracts; to provide technical guidance to County and/or contracted staff in the necessary maintenance of County facilities; to supervise resolution of illicit discharges and hazardous spills; and to perform related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
The Supervising Facilities Inspector classification is responsible for the supervision of field inspections of all Public Works owned properties and assets. This class is distinguished from the next lower class of Public Works Inspector III (Facilities Inspection option) in that the former class is a first-line supervisor providing supervision and direction to a number of lower-level inspectors.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in the class of Public Works Inspector III (Facilities Inspection option) in the Alameda County classified service.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a supervisor in maintenance and construction operations which provided the knowledge and abilities listed below for the option.
OR III
The equivalent of five (5) years of full-time experience in road and flood control maintenance and construction work, two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity that provided the knowledge and abilities listed below for the option.
AND
License:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
AND
Special Certificate:
As a condition of employment, the Supervising Facilities Inspector must currently possess and maintain a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) First Responder Operations (FRO) training certification or higher level of Hazardous Materials Operations training. HAZWOPER and FRO training requirements and competencies are defined in the California Code of Regulations Title 8, Section 5192 (q) (6) (B) or 29CCR 1910.120(q)(6)(ii).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties require the incumbents to work in a standard office setting and to walk on even, uneven, and wet surfaces while conducting inspections at work sites. Incumbents drive daily for up to two (2) hours and must frequently get in and out of the vehicle. While conducting inspections incumbents may be required to stoop, kneel, and squat for brief periods of time and climb ladders. Incumbents work outside in all weather conditions and are exposed daily to loud noises, heavy dust, and mechanical hazards such as construction equipment. Some assignments may involve working around poisonous plants, chemicals, lead-based paint, sewage leakage, or other chemical spills; inspection sites may also involve electrical hazards and entering trenches, pipelines, and culverts. Incumbents are required to be on-call 24 hours to respond to various emergencies.
