DESCRIPTION
|
Under close supervision, to assist journey-level appraisers in collecting, assembling, and processing data necessary to the valuation of real property; to learn and apply fundamental appraisal principles and practices; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES An Appraiser Aide is assigned duties and responsibilities which directly relieve professional appraisal personnel of the more routine and standardized field and office functions. Positions in this class are distinguished from other positions in the appraisal series, in that Real Property Appraiser Aides are not authorized to make appraisals for property tax purposes since these require more independent judgment and interpretive ability. The class is distinguished from specialized clerical classes in that the duties performed require judgment and application of basic appraisal techniques and skills. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. May assist an Appraiser by making preliminary determination of building's structural and quality classification. 2. May assist an Appraiser by measuring, plotting, and describing construction characteristics of buildings. 3. Reviews construction cost questionnaires and may make field inspections when the data on the form is incomplete or questionable. 4. Checks with city/county building departments on status of permits. 5. Calls buyers to confirm information on sales questionnaires. 6. Answers appraisal inquiries from the public. 7. Converts property sales to their cash equivalent. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
The equivalent of two years at the Clerk II level or above in the Assessor's Office, and successful completion of college level credit approved courses in Principles of Real Estate and Real Estate Appraisal.
OR The equivalent of two years of experience as a licensed real estate agent or broker or other related real estate or appraisal experience. OR Successful completion of two years of college, which must have included all of the basic general education courses required and successful completion of college-level credit courses in Principles of Real Estate, Real Estate Law or Finance, and Real Estate Appraisal. OR Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Special Requirements: Employee may be required to climb stairs and hills. Employee may be required to distinguish between the colors of red, blue, and green. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
