DESCRIPTION

Under close supervision, to assist journey- and senior-level auditor-appraisers in collecting, assembling, processing and disseminating data necessary to the assessment of business personal property and fixtures; to learn and apply fundamental audit-appraisal and valuation principles, practices and techniques; to learn and work with the various sections and functions of the Assessor's Office, as well as the Tax Collector and Auditor-Controller's Offices.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES An Auditor-Appraiser Aide is assigned duties and responsibilities which directly relieve and/or complement professional audit-appraisal personnel in the more routine and standardized field and office functions. Positions in this class may be distinguished from positions in the Audit-Appraisal series in that less independent judgment and interpretive ability is exercised since they are not authorized to make independent audit appraisals for property tax purposes. This class is distinguished from specialized clerical classes in that the duties performed involve audits of small businesses or assisting Auditor-Appraisers with more complex audits. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Requests certain small businesses to appear at the Assessor's Office an conduct in-house property tax audits under close supervision of a Supervising Auditor-Appraiser. 2. Assist auditor-appraisers in complex audits. Duties include collection and computation of data. 3. Conduct routine investigations concerning taxpayer complaints. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of two years at the Clerk II level or above in the Assessor's Office and successful completion of a college-level credit course in elementary accounting. Within 18 months, the employee will be required to successfully complete a college-level credit approved course in intermediate Accounting in order to continue employment as an Auditor-Appraiser Aide. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Continued Or Successful completion of two years of college, which must have included all of the basic general education courses required and including successful completion of college-level credit courses in Introductory and Intermediate Accounting. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
