DESCRIPTION
|
Under direction of an Assistant Public Defender, the Chief Assistant, or the Public Defender, to supervise, review, and evaluate the work of a group of Holistic Defense Mitigation Specialists assisting in the defense of Public Defender clients; to train staff and maintain work standards; to maintain acceptable standards of casework practices; and to perform related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
The Holistic Defense Mitigation Supervisor is a single-position classification located in the Public Defender’s Office and reports directly to an Assistant Public Defender or an executive-level manager. This position is the first-line supervisor classification within the Holistic Defense Mitigation career ladder. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day work of the Holistic Defense Mitigation work within the Office of the Public Defender. This position will be responsible for ensuring that Holistic Defense Mitigation Specialists will provide the necessary social work support to staff.
The Holistic Defense Mitigation Supervisor classification is distinguished from the lower-level classification of Holistic Defense Mitigation Specialist III in that the supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of holistic defense mitigation work, while the specialists are considered the advanced journey-level classification in the class series.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a Holistic Defense Mitigation III in the Alameda County classified service.
OR II
Education:
Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, social welfare, social/human services, sociology, psychology, clinical psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or other behavioral science or related field.
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience supervising and overseeing mitigation defense work, court advocacy, case management, and/or other social work support services for people impacted by the criminal or juvenile legal systems.
License:
Possession of a valid Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist license from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or California Board of Psychology. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
Special Requirement:
Must be able to obtain security clearance for entry into jails/prisons. Travel may be required on an as-needed basis.
