DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Deputy County Librarian or a Principal Librarian, assumes staff advisory responsibility for the development and coordination of library service programs.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Librarians IV are responsible for the system-wide services in a specialized area and/or to a specific service population. This classification differs from that of Supervising Librarian by the latter having responsibility for branch library or select technical services operations. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Creates and recommends plans and programs for the improvement of branch and system-wide centralized services for a specific service area or population. 2. Advises branch personnel and consults with the Principal Librarian on children's, teen’s and adult services including, but not limited to reference, circulation, scheduling, training, programming and other system-wide public services, as well as the development and maintenance of branch collections. 3. Participates with branch supervisors and other appropriate staff in selecting branch personnel assigned to work with designated service area or population and consults with and advises the corresponding supervisors on performance evaluations of such staff. 4. Plans and coordinates system-wide events, such as volunteer recognition, Teen Read Week, Summer Reading, Library Card Sign-up Month, Legislative Day, National Library Week, or various cultural celebrations Coordinates with branch supervisors to schedule and assign staff for training, Sunday work. 5. Coordinates with branch supervisors on the development and maintenance of productive working relationships with groups supporting work within the designated service area or population, including staff development opportunities. 6. At the request and supervision of the Technical Services Manager and/or Principal Librarian, provides back-up support for the selection of library materials to appear on buying lists for reference, general, children's, or special services; and when necessary, arranges to have sample materials available. 7. Plans and develops training programs for appropriate personnel in consultation with Principal Librarians and other coordinators as appropriate. Contributes to continuing education plans for staff serving designated service area or population. Provides continuing guidance for staff. 8. Regularly reviews and prepares evaluative reports on library services and programs, with recommendations, for Principal Librarians and the Library Executive Council. 9. Acts as liaison with the Technical Services Collections staff to assure that the collections of library materials support library services for the designated service area or population. 10. Chairs a system-wide committee of staff whose work focuses on a designated service area or a specialized population. Coordinates annual meeting schedules, agendas, and posting of minutes. Communicates recommendations from the committee to the Library’s Executive Committee. 11. Performs special assignments as appropriate. |
