DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, plans, organizes, directs and reviews water resources programs related to groundwater management and oversees the Groundwater Section of the Integrated Water Resources division; supports operations and maintenance and water supply planning through hydro-geologic research, investigation and analysis of the groundwater basin, including surface water and climatological gauges and telemetry; and the construction and operation of production wells. Monitors regulatory changes and legislative developments impacting groundwater management; coordinates groundwater protection program activities with regulatory agencies such as the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), the California State Department of Water Resources (DWR) and other sections and outside agencies; supervises professional, technical and support staff; and performs other related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single-position classification responsible for directing the management and protection of groundwater resources within the Zone 7 Water Agency. The position reports to the Manager of Integrated Water Resources, Zone 7 and is distinguished from the latter who has overall responsibility for both the groundwater resources and the integrated planning sections. This position is further distinguished from the Principal Engineer/Geologist, Zone 7 in that this position focuses on groundwater resource management and the latter manages the work of an engineering or planning section. |

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
EITHER I Experience: The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in the classification of Associate Civil Engineer/Professional Geologist, Zone 7, or equivalent or higher classification in the Alameda County classified service. OR II Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in water resources management; geology; hydrology; civil, chemical or environmental engineering; or a closely related field. AND Experience: The equivalent of five (5) years of full-time professional-level experience in managing groundwater resources and related programs with geologic, hydrogeologic chemical, civil or environmental engineering experience for an organization, with at least two (2) years of experience having been in a supervisory capacity. License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Special Requirements: Must be willing and able to work in areas where there is exposure to chemical, mechanical and electrical hazards, and outdoors in all weather conditions. May be required to respond to off-hour emergencies. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
