DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision provides a variety of office and field maintenance support duties; budgets; specifies, plans, and purchases equipment, supplies and materials needed for the maintenance and construction of water treatment and distribution systems; develops and maintains inventory control and storage systems for maintenance department; and performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single-position classification reporting to the Maintenance Manager. This class works independently to support the Maintenance department. This classification is responsible to budget, plan, procure, organize, store, and distribute all materials required by maintenance staff while coordinating with contractors, Engineering, and Operations to accomplish their assigned work. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Budgets, reviews plans, determines required material quantities and writes specifications for supplies, parts, equipment and materials; determines adequacy of specified materials and identifies alternatives as appropriate; coordinates with engineering, operations, and maintenance staff. 2. Establishes and maintains diversified, responsible and economical sources of supply; communicates and negotiates with vendors regarding price, availability, delivery and quality; reviews contractor and supplier invoices for conformance with contracts and existing specifications. 3. Prepares Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and reviews annual contracts for the Maintenance department to ensure that the Agency is receiving the services or products that have been contractually agreed to. 4. Purchases supplies, equipment and materials according to Agency and County policies, procedures and requirements, in coordination with agency engineering and accounting staff and County Purchasing Department. 5. Receives, verifies, organizes and stores purchased materials; pulls, sorts and prepares materials for planned jobs; sees that necessary materials are promptly made available to work crews to maximize crews' time and cost effectiveness. 6. Develops and maintains inventory control, storage and distribution systems, including facilities, procedures, and manual and computerized records and reports. 7. Ensures timely replenishment of ongoing supply needs; serves as resource to engineering, operations and construction personnel regarding ongoing or special purchasing activities. 8. Develops computer-based purchasing and materials control applications to ensure maintenance purchasing needs are maintained. 9. Works with maintenance and contract personnel on projects as needed. 10. Acts as liaison between Maintenance Manager, Agency staff and contractors; answers questions and resolves routine problems. 11. Develops and reviews standard operating procedures for the Maintenance department. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
Experience:
The equivalent of two years of responsible materials and supply acquisition and control experience, which has included developing technical maintenance and construction specifications and establishing sources of supply. The work must have provided a knowledge of the materials, supplies and equipment found in a water treatment and distribution utility. Experience in a public agency setting is desirable. License: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Possession of a Grade I or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate is desirable. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
