DESCRIPTION

Under instruction and close supervision, to learn and to perform increasingly responsible and varied sub-professional and professional water resources engineering work; and to perform related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The purpose of this class is to provide currently enrolled engineering students or recent graduates with summer or part-time academic year work, which will supplement their college program, and which will better qualify them for permanent professional positions. Recent graduates may work up to one year after graduation. Incumbents are systematically given progressively responsible office and field assignments corresponding to their stage of professional development. Typically, a student with one year of college training, during the first summer of work, is assigned to perform well inspections and check gaging stations, or to a survey crew to measure distances and determine elevations and to learn to use surveying instruments. A student who has completed three years of college, and has participated in the summer program for two previous summers, is usually assigned duties similar to those of an inexperienced professional engineer. |

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
Education:
Current enrollment or recent graduation from a college or university and successful completion of the equivalent of one semester of work in the typical pre-engineering series of courses, typically including calculus, drafting, and physics. Completed coursework in environmental engineering, water resources, groundwater resources, hydrogeology and chemistry is desirable. License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s license is desirable. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
