DESCRIPTION

Under direction of the Pharmacy Director or Medical Director, supports the monitoring and the delivery of pharmacy services to mental health and alcohol and drug programs for the Health Care Services Agency Department of Alameda County Behavioral Health (ACBH).  In addition, this position assists in the monitoring of medication prescribing and performs related work as required.  

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES  

An incumbent in the class of Pharmacist, ACBH assists the Pharmacy Director and Senior Pharmacist in monitoring pharmacy services and medication prescribing for Alameda County Behavioral Health and its clients throughout ACBH programs and network pharmacies.  The Pharmacist, ACBH is the entry level position and has little to no experience working with mentally ill clients and minimal training and knowledge in psychotropic medications.  This position reports directly to the ACBH Pharmacy Director.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE:    The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification.  However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.  Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

  1. Supports the ACBH Medication Monitoring Program which includes quarterly monitoring of all programs’ charts using the ACBH Practice Guidelines, annual monitoring goal of 15% of each physician’s caseload, and semiannual program reports & trending data to the ACBH Pharmacy and Medical Director.
  2. Assists the Senior Clinical Pharmacist in monitoring psychotropic prescribing patterns including monthly usage, dosing and cost data for long-range planning and cost analysis.
  3. Assists the Senior Clinical Pharmacist with drug company medication and Patient Assistance Program by generation of medication reports, patient assistance applications, and quarterly medically indigent adult (MIA) pharmacy monitoring of medications.
  4. Assists the Senior Clinical Pharmacist in monitoring program supply of medication on a quarterly basis and medication disposal, as necessary.
  5. Provides data as assigned by the Senior Clinical Pharmacist.
  6. Supports the Adverse Drug Reaction reporting system.
  7. Provides general medication consultations as requested by the medical staff.
  8. Assists Pharmacy Director with prescription billing and claims reversal.
  9. Keeps informed of new drugs and innovations in the psychiatric pharmaceutical field, maintains awareness of current literature and information for ACBH staff, serves as a resource for the professional staff and answers technical pharmaceutical questions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  

Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy.  

AND  

Experience:  

The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a pharmacist.  

License:  

Possession of a valid license to practice pharmacy in California.
