DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, to assist the Environmental Health Department staff with implementing the mandates of the various Environmental Health programs. These programs include but are not limited to Body Art, Vector Control, Hazardous Materials (CUPA, LOP), Contaminated Site Cleanup, Land Use, Household Hazardous Waste, Operations (Food, Recreation), and miscellaneous general needs of the Department as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Environmental Health Maintenance Workers are assigned to the Environmental Health Department, within the Health Care Services Agency. This classification is the entry-level maintenance position for all programmatic assignments and is expected to work under the oversight of one of the Department’s management staff. This position is distinguished from the Environmental Health Technician in that the latter class is responsible for assisting in the more technical determinations of a given facility’s program eligibility for hazardous materials and operations, or assisting with vector biology issues or data management. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed. 2. If safety issues are identified to bring them to the attention of the management staff. 3. Assist in the cleanup and maintenance including light duty maintenance of program related equipment. 4. Assists in the performance of basic components of Environmental Health programs requiring less technical skills and knowledge. 5. Accompany field inspectors as needed to aid in traffic control, manage files and forms, survey areas being inspected, deliver water samples, transport documents, and other assistance as necessary. 6. Maintain the order of meeting rooms and workstations by moving tables and chairs. |

Knowledge of: • Basic methods, materials, safety practices and tools used in maintenance work. • Workplace safety techniques, such as proper lifting of objects up to 50 lbs. • General methods, techniques and practices used in the determination and elimination of health hazards. • Basic computer use for record keeping and office clerical work. Ability to: • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Understanding and following written and oral instructions. • Keep neat and accurate records. • Exercise tact and courtesy with the public, vendors, and co-workers. • Operate, assemble and maintain mechanical equipment. |
