DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, to coordinate, evaluate, and plan special venereal disease projects and direct public health investigative programs; responsible for venereal disease budget preparation; surveillance of agency venereal disease clinics; establish and maintain liaison with public and private agencies, physicians and persons concerned with communicable disease problems; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The one position in this class has overall supervisory and administrative responsibility for the Investigative Unit of the Communicable Disease Bureau of the Health Department. The incumbent of this position will plan and implement investigative programs. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the Public Health Investigator Unit. 2. Responsibility for venereal disease program planning and evaluation assigned to the Bureau of Communicable Diseases. 3. Reviews all orders for quarantine and isolation, legal notices to appear, and warrants for arrest in cooperation with a district health officer before they are issued. 4. Authorizes release of information from medical records to other health departments and to physicians, as directed by the Chief of the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control. Coordinates and evaluates special venereal disease projects assigned to the Bureau of Communicable Disease. 5. Maintains liaison with public and private agencies concerned with communicable disease problems. Maintain and update venereal disease manuals and procedures. 6. Calls on physicians to enlist their cooperation and support of Health Department regulations. Responsible for preparation of the venereal disease budget for the Bureau of Communicable Disease. 7. Arranges conferences with departmental personnel; gathers data and submits reports to the Chief, Bureau of Communicable Disease; advises and assists on policies and programs relating to venereal disease. Acts as a consultant to the districts, public, and private agencies. 8. Assists bureau chief in writing manuals, memos and the budget. Assists the Chief of the Bureau of Communicable Diseases in other venereal disease programs. Responsible for surveillance of venereal disease activities in the Agency Venereal Disease Clinics, and venereal disease morbidity reports. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year of experience in the class of Senior Public Health Investigator. Or II The equivalent of two years of experience in the class of Public Health Investigator in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or III Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, And Experience: The equivalent of three years of full-time experience as a Public Health Investigator, Social Worker, or in a comparable capacity providing investigative or social services to the public. Or IV Some acceptable combination of education and experience. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
