Under general direction the Violence Prevention Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating violence prevention efforts and services for Alameda County. This would involve direct contact with other public and private agencies, oversee pilot program in targeted neighborhoods, develop and secure grants and funding opportunities and represents Alameda County as a working member of a Leadership Council.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single position professional classification reporting directly to the Public Health Director. This position will work independently and perform sophisticated research and countywide policy analysis designed to maximize the County violence prevention efforts and ultimately, reduce the incidence of violence throughout the County. This position may have supervisory responsibility over clerical staff. This position is responsible for implementation of the Violence Prevention Blueprint adopted by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The individual selected will work closely with the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, County Leaders and multiple County Departments. This individual will • Coordinate violence prevention efforts; • Staff the Leadership Council and its subcommittees; • Assess resource allocation and alignment; • Coordinate and collaborate with community stakeholders; and • Provide training and information about violence prevention models and best practices. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Collaborate with other county and city departments and community based organizations in developing neighborhood based community support systems for the prevention of violence. 2. Plans and supervises program activities; evaluates violence prevention and violence treatment services rendered within Alameda County; acts as liaison with community groups, program clients, federal, state, county and city agencies, and community based organizations. 3. Assists in developing an action program designed to pool available and untapped resources of public and private agencies in order to strengthen or inaugurate new services for these specific target groups. 4. Attends leadership Council and serves as the Alameda County chief liaison or representative. 5. Develops fund raising ideas and proposals. 6. Monitors budget expenditures. 7. Provides program specialty consultation to community groups. 8. Inventories the resources available to meet the needs of service recipients and monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the services provided by public and private agencies in meeting the needs of the target group. 9. Provides training and technical assistance to providers of violence prevention services for target groups served. 10. Maintains program statistics and prepares reports, procedures and recommendations regarding projects or programs for target group served. 11. Provides resource materials on legislation, supports or opposes legislative proposals. 12. Supervision of clerical staff. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Education: Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in sociology, counseling, social work, public administration, criminology, or related field. AND Experience: The equivalent of two years of professional full-time administrative and program development experience in a human services field, including one year of experience performing duties involving community liaison or outreach functions of multi-program coordination functions. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of general experience. Or II Experience: The equivalent of six years of full-time, progressively responsible experience in a human services field, including two years of professional full-time administrative and program development experience in a human services field, including one year of experience performing duties involving community liaison or outreach functions of multi-program coordination functions. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
