DESCRIPTION

Under general direction, the Volunteer Program Coordinator has administrative responsibility for the CASA and Volunteer programs, including the development of funding proposals and the recruitment of volunteers.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single-position class. This position receives direction from the Assistant Chief Probation Officer. The incumbent participates in the design, planning and implementation of volunteers in the department. This includes recruitment, training, assigning and monitoring volunteers to act as advocates and mentors to youth who have been ordered by the court into this program; assists volunteers in writing reports to the court on various offenders; conducts yearly fund-raiser meetings, writes grants and meets with various judicial council officials in the administration of CASA funds; monitors the volunteers and hosts quarterly and monthly training sessions. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Developing fund-raising proposals. 2. Planning future growth and support of CASA program. 3. Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers. 4. Evaluating clients' needs for services. 5. Assigning cases to volunteers. 6. Educating the public about CASA, child abuse issues, case management and inter-agency networking. 7. Meeting with various foundations to request funding. 8. Consulting with representatives from the Courts and Social Services departments to resolve case issues and concerns. 9. Maintaining program statistics and preparing reports. 10. Supervising clerical staff. 11. Participating in the design, planning and implementation of the department's volunteer program. 12. Coordinating and managing the process for recruiting, training and use of volunteers as mentors in the Department and Court Services. 13. Performing other duties as required. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in sociology, counseling, public administration or closely related field. And Experience: The equivalent of one year of full-time management/supervisory experience working with high-risk youth. Two additional years of experience may be substituted for the required education up to two years. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
