Under close supervision, to receive training and perform work in support of an assigned professional field such as but not limited to: administration, behavioral health, communications, community outreach, counseling, environmental science, information technology, microbiology, nursing, psychology, vocational services, or a related field; and to perform other work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Positions in this class may be assigned at the sub-professional or professional levels and are found in various departments within Health Care Services Agency. Incumbents are assigned duties of a well-defined and limited nature. Their work is subject to detailed and frequent review, which lessens as they become more experienced. With experience they are gradually assigned projects of greater scope and responsibility. Graduate and Doctoral students enrolled in an accredited program as well as other persons who have completed specific training and are eligible for licensure or certification in their applicable field of study may collect hours towards licensure or certification while receiving group and individual supervision. Incumbents may typically work up to 2 years in this capacity. Positions in this class are of a temporary nature and assignments are to be terminated after graduation from college, after satisfactory completion of an assigned training program, after obtaining applicable State licensure or certification, or after 2 years of service as an intern. Failure to satisfactorily complete the assigned training program, and/or obtain the applicable state license or certification within two years of service as an intern will result in termination. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
When assigned to Behavioral Health Care Services: 1. Under the guidance of licensed staff, provides crisis intervention, referrals, individual and group therapy, training and outreach to a small caseload of mental health, alcohol and other substance abuse or dual diagnosed clients including children, adolescents, adults, older adults and their families. 2. Participates with full-time staff in ongoing clinical case conferences. 3. Receives individual clinical supervision, evaluation and mentoring from a licensed clinician and/or Program Manager. When assigned to Environmental Health: 1. Professionally represents Alameda County in interactions with the public in the conducting of environmental, food safety, hazardous materials/waste and vector inspections. 2. Learns and applies various state and federal regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety in working with applicable programs. 3. Collects environmental samples and conducts water and other chemistry testing. When assigned to Agency Administration and Public Health: 1. Participates in community outreach activities such as assisting with medical assessments and testing, immunization campaigns, linkage to community resources, counseling and registering clients for various public health programs and services. 2. Assists with special initiatives, projects, programs or studies within various departments. 3. Acts as a liaison between the public and professional staff; answers telephone inquiries, makes appropriate referrals, assists with mailings, data input and other related office duties. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree program, majoring in public administration, business administration, health care administration, public health, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, counseling, nursing, environmental health science, microbiology, or a closely related field as required for the specific assignment. OR Education: Completion of specific training to be eligible to take a California State licensing or certification examination in their applicable professional field of study. License: Some positions in this class may require possession of a valid California motor vehicle driver’s license. Special Requirement: Some positions may require possession of a National Provider Identifier (NPI) in compliance with the Administrative Simplification provision of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) prior to their first day of employment. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
