DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, provides support to clinical staff in community health settings throughout Alameda County. This includes scheduling and coordinating outreach locations; driving and operating mobile vehicles; maintaining required supplies and equipment; and performing related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This position is found exclusively in the Health Care Services Agency. The incumbent reports to the Unit Supervisor, works with community based health care and support services operations and drives the mobile van throughout Alameda County to designated field sites on a scheduled basis (i.e. shelters, parks and meal sites). The incumbent in this position works closely with a skilled multi-disciplinary team in the field and generally assists the clinical practitioner and ancillary staff on the mobile health van or at /field sites. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Drives and operates the mobile health van to field sites (i.e. shelters, parks and meal sites) on a scheduled basis. 2. Provides general assistance to the clinical practitioner on the mobile health van or at field sites. 3. Assists other field staff (i.e., case managers) as appropriate. 4. Maintains records of all services provided on the mobile health van such as medical billing, TB and immunizations. 5. Assists in arranging and monitoring the flow of patients. 6. Conducts initial intakes/assessments and records patient vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature. 7. Ensures the van is maintained/cleaned and vehicle maintenance and housekeeping logs are kept current. 8. While clinic is in session, inputs patient demographic and vitals into computer prior to clinicians charting clinical notes. 9. Coordinates repair, emission checks and service activities and maintains records of vehicle maintenance, equipment and operating expenses. 10. Picks up and stocks supplies for van operation (i.e. rubber gloves, tissues, forms, etc). 11. Picks up pharmacy orders and assists mid-level practitioner with stocking. 12. Secures mobile van in established parking area at the end of each day. 13. Answers questions from the public concerning clinic and program specific policies, procedures and service availability. 14. Picks up/drops off laboratory specimens/cultures. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
A high school diploma or educational equivalent, AND Experience: The equivalent of one year of full-time work experience involving the operation of a commercial motor vehicle (preferably a large mobile unit). One year of full-time experience in providing customer service in a community outreach or clinical setting is strongly desired. License: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle driver’s license and a good driving record. (Some assignments may require the possession of class B license, depending upon the specifications of the vehicle being used.) NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
