Under general direction, to supervise, evaluate, and schedule the work and operations of Transportation Workers involved in the transportation of dependent minors; to coordinate and direct the Social Services Agency's transportation activities; and to perform related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a one-position class located in the Social Services Agency. The incumbent acts as first-line supervisor for a large group of Transportation Workers, and schedules their activities to meet the transportation needs of the Agency. This class is distinguished from the lower-level class of Transportation Worker in that this is a supervisory class where the incumbent does not transport persons. This position reports to the Director, Snedigar Cottage. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Receives calls from individuals and agency staff in need of transportation services; schedules as-needed staff in the transportation of dependent minors throughout Alameda County and occasionally to other jurisdictions; assigns and reviews work; evaluates performance and prepares performance evaluations; trains staff and arranges for training courses/information to be presented; recommends disciplinary action as required; interviews applicants and recommends hiring. 2. Prepares budget estimates and projections for transportation activities; maintains activity records and prepares statistical reports; prepares management information as required; monitors expenditures and expenses within the budget. 3. Develops operating policies and procedures; acts as liaison with agency representatives and representatives of other jurisdictions; coordinates activities with other agency operations; attends meetings to resolve problems relating to the transportation of minors. 4. Investigates complaints or allegations involving transportation staff; initiates appropriate action in order to resolve such situations. 5. Oversees the maintenance and inspection of county vehicles used in the section; inspects safety equipment used in vehicles. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year of experience in the class of Transportation Worker or the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Transportation Worker (SAN) (some supervisory experience or training is desirable). Or II The equivalent of two years of experience involved in the transportation of individuals, including at least 6 months in a lead or supervisory capacity. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
