DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, to supervise one or more operations in a County laundry; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Laundry Supervisors directly supervise approximately ten to twenty employees performing linen processing tasks in all departments of the operation (Soil Sort, Finishing, Wash Room, Distribution, Sewing/Mending and Delivery). Laundry Supervisor reports to a Laundry Manager. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Assigns employees to work stations and closely supervises and evaluates their work. 2. Initiates and reviews sanitation measures and procedures for sorting and working with soiled and contaminated linen; checks all working areas and equipment to see they are kept in a clean and orderly condition. 3. May perform the duties of any position within the laundry as required; may assume the duties of Laundry Manager in his/her absence. 4. Assigns work schedules and day off rotations. 5. Supervises, trains and enforces policies and procedures of the County Laundry. 6. May assist in interviewing prospective employees; evaluates current employees' performance. 7. Keeps records of work performed, items discarded, employees’ attendance and related matters pertaining to the laundry operation. 8. Maintains delivery schedule set by the Laundry Manager. 9. Performs other related duties under the direction of the Laundry Manager, as needed. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of two years’ full-time experience in the class of Laundry Service Worker or higher-level class in the Alameda County Laundry. Or II Experience: The equivalent of three years’ full-time experience in a large commercial or institutional laundry that included one year in a supervisory capacity. Special Requirement: Ability to read and write English. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |

Knowledge of: • Principles of effective supervision. • Familiarity with linen supplies in hospitals. • Methods and procedures of operating a linen storeroom. • Methods, supplies and equipment used in a large-scale washroom operation and methods of marking linens. • Methods and agents used in removing stains from various materials. • Sanitation and safety practices. Abilities: • Working with minimal supervision. • Supervising and instructing employees in the performance of their duties. • Direct and coordinate the work flow and staffing with other department supervisors. • Following oral and written instructions. • Evaluating employee performance. |
