DESCRIPTION

Under direction, to have charge of a complete laundry operation at the Santa Rita Jail; to assign and instruct inmates in the various laundry tasks; to perform the more important washing operations; to be responsible for keeping the laundry areas and equipment in a clean, orderly and well-maintained condition; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Although the quantity of laundry processed at Santa Rita is similar to the amount at Fairmont Hospital Laundry, most of the laundry work is performed by inmates under the supervision of the Laundry Supervisor. As there are no subordinate supervisors, his/her work is primarily characterized by the responsibility for inmate training and supervision without constant policing by the custodial staff. The Laundry Supervisor reports to the Supply Sergeant at Santa Rita. Since the operation is largely routine, there is little direction except for repairs or replacement of machinery or for security and disciplinary problems. |
