DESCRIPTION

Under direction of the Deputy Chief, Support Services, this one position classification provides journey-level support to the Fire Department’s computer network, including all users, hardware and software maintenance and support, application development and system analysis; and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This position is responsible for providing information systems and network support to department computer users and developing/modifying system applications for all department computer systems. The incumbent provides journey-level support and training for users and exercises a good deal of independence in the performance of assigned job duties. This is a 40-hour per week position. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Acts as network system administrator and provides technical assistance to users regarding hardware and software problems; serves as primary contact in troubleshooting and administering assigned systems. 2. Confers with department users and managers to determine system needs; analyzes and recommends hardware and software purchases. 3. May develop custom applications and reports as required by department management including automated databases, spreadsheets or other programs; analyzes user application requests and assists in system design. 4. Researches, analyzes, and evaluates new hardware and software products for use by the department; stays abreast of new trends and innovations related to network systems. 5. Provides technical assistance to departmental computer users regarding hardware and software problems; contacts vendors as required; provides training to users. 6. Maintains, upgrades, installs and tests hardware and software systems; prepares and maintains user and procedural manuals. 7. Performs regular maintenance to system hardware; backs-up, maintains and restores system files; maintains appropriate records and files. 8. Must be available after working hours for emergencies with the network. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
The incumbent must be a certified network engineer and possess an Associate of Arts degree in a field related to information systems.
