DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Fire Department General Services Manager, performs duties related to the coordination and/or scheduling of maintenance and repairs of facilities operated by the Alameda County Fire Department.


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

The Fire Department Facilities Coordinator is a non-safety classification within the Alameda County Fire Department. The incumbent of this single, journey-level classification is responsible for the performance and/or coordination of general and minor maintenance of the Department operated facilities. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Fire Department General Services Manager in that the latter is a supervisory classification and has overall responsibility for the administration and planning of Alameda County Fire Department facilities maintenance and operations. The Fire Department Facilities Coordinator may direct the work of assigned staff and outside vendors performing facilities maintenance.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Performs routine maintenance and repairs to facilities, (e.g., carpentry, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, and other related activities).

2. Prioritizes repair and maintenance work orders; performs, schedules, or coordinates general repairs or maintenance as needed.

3. Plans and coordinates schedules for preventative maintenance on equipment, machinery, tools, and facilities.

4. Assists in estimating costs of personnel, parts, and supplies to be used for scheduled maintenance activities; makes recommendations regarding maintenance and cost savings measures.

5. Prepares necessary documentation when requesting proposals and quotes for services, products and equipment. Defines the scope of work, timelines, and specifications for these services, products, and equipment.

6. Monitors, leads, directs, and reviews the work of assigned staff or outside vendors engaged in performing preventive maintenance; communicates project requirements, monitors work performance, and including reviews finished projects to ensure completeness.

7. Prepares and maintains various reports and records.

8. Reviews manufacturers’ service manuals, facility usage schedules, and records of maintenance problems in order to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance activities.

9. Completes appropriate administrative documentation (e.g., purchases, billing, work orders, credit card receipts, and other related documentation).

10. Operates a department issued vehicle during the performance of maintenance and repair related work.

11. Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures and observes safe work methods and precautions in compliance with safety regulations.

12. Performs periodic grounds keeping and sprinkler maintenance, operates associated grounds keeping equipment.

13. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate such as the General Education Development Certificate (State of California).

AND
Experience:

The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience performing routine maintenance and repairs in facilities maintenance, general construction, or a related construction trade.

AND
License:

Possession of a valid California Class-C Motor Vehicle Operator's license.


Special Requirement:

Incumbents may be required to work on-call, varying shifts, and or overtime on an as needed basis and with little notice.
