DEFINITION
Under general direction, to coordinate the implementation of the Fire Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Quality Improvement Program, Dispatch Training Program, and other programs/projects; and perform related duties as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This single-class position reports to the Fire Dispatch Manager and is located in the Alameda County Fire Department. The Fire EMD Quality Assurance Coordinator is distinguished from the lower-level classification of Fire Dispatch Supervisor in that the latter has day-to-day supervisory responsibilities over a group of dispatchers assigned to a shift. This class is further distinguished by the next higher-level classification of Fire Dispatch Manager in that the latter plans, directs, manages and evaluates the activities and operations of ACRECC. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Represents ACRECC and acts as liaison with other County departments and representatives of other public/private organizations on emergency dispatch issues; and serves on a variety of committees and task forces. 2. Reviews a variety of documents related to the operations of ACRECC for conformance to program regulations and procedures, including but not limited Alameda County EMS and State EMS statutes and regulations; researches and makes corrections as required. 3. Plans, designs and coordinates quality assurance program(s); evaluates and ensures EMD standards and protocol compliance; and ensures ACRECC maintains an Accredited Center of Excellence certification. 4. Interprets and applies a variety of policies, rules and regulations. 5. Reviews, develops, and modifies internal policies, procedures, standards, and training modules for the Emergency Medical Dispatch Program and ACRECC. 6. Ensures that Fire Dispatchers are maintaining Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification. 7. Trains new and current Fire Dispatchers in work procedures; evaluates and identifies deficiencies and makes recommendations, as needed. 8. Assists in the development and implementation of Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) for employees; assists with remediation and training, as needed. 9. Coordinates investigations of EMS related complaints and unusual occurrences. 10. Provides staff coverage as a Fire Dispatcher and Fire Dispatch Supervisor, as needed. 11. Prepares a variety of correspondence, periodic and special reports, policies, procedures and other written materials; may access varied databases or use information from various sources to prepare such materials. 12. Maintains accurate records and files related to work performed. 13. Operates a variety of standard office equipment including a word processor and/or computer; may drive an ACFD or personal vehicle to attend meetings. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
Current appointment as a Fire Dispatch Supervisor in the Alameda County Fire Department OR Experience: The equivalent of four years of full-time journey-level dispatching experience with a public safety agency at a National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) Accredited Center of Excellence, including one year of dispatch supervisory and training experience. AND Licenses/Certifications: Valid California Class C driver’s license Valid Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification Special Requirements: Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance is required as this position is located at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), a federally secured Department of Energy (DOE) facility. Candidates must pass a psychological evaluation, a medical examination and a thorough background evaluation after an offer of employment is made. Valid Emergency Medical Dispatcher- Quality (NAED ED-Q) certification must be obtained within six months of appointment. Incumbents in this classification may be required to work holidays, weekends and up to 18-hour shifts when needed. There is mandatory overtime. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
