DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, to supervise and coordinate the work of the Agricultural Division of the Community Development Agency, and to act for the Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner in his/her absence on agricultural issues, and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The Deputy Agricultural Commissioner may report to the Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner, and the Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Assistant Deputy Director. The Deputy Agricultural Commissioner is responsible for the day-to-day guidance and direction of operating personnel in specific programs in the Agricultural Division of the Community Development Agency, as well as assisting with the development of agricultural policies, procedures, and programs. The incumbent provides staff assistance to the Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner and the Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Assistant Deputy Director on budgetary and research matters and serves as a Division training officer. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Plans, supervises and coordinates the work of the division, and may act in the Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner’s absence. 2. Coordinates and evaluates staff in the implementation of pest prevention, pesticide use enforcement, nursery, seed, standardization, pest management, and statistics programs. 3. Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, budget preparation and in the evaluation of workload statistics. 4. Supervises the investigation of complaints, gathering of evidence and preparation of cases for hearings or trials, and may appear as a witness in litigation cases. 5. Cooperates with County, State, and Federal personnel on law enforcement and program development activities. 6. Supervises the care, use and maintenance of division vehicles and equipment. 7. Provides in-service training to employees and encourages safe working practices in the performance of inspections and pest management activities. 8. Speaks before interested groups regarding the activities of the Agricultural Division 9. Prepares reports, correspondence and is responsible for the maintenance of records. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year in the class of Senior Agricultural Biologist or higher level class in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II The equivalent of five years’ full-time experience in agricultural inspection work for law enforcement purposes of which two of those years must have been in a supervisory capacity, And Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in Agricultural or Biological Science. Certificates and Licenses: Valid State certification as a Deputy County Agricultural Commissioner. Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
