DESCRIPTION
|
This classification specification describes the entry-level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer flexibly staffed series. Under close supervision, Code Enforcement Officer I performs the more routine and standardized tasks and learns County and departmental policies, procedures, and practices. Code Enforcement Officers are primarily responsible for the office and field investigation work involved in conducting inspections and enforcing codes and ordinances for property related to use, maintenance and safety of land and structures, the enforcement of codes and ordinances including, but not limited to zoning, subdivision, neighborhood preservation, abandoned vehicles, sign amortization and substandard conditions. Investigative work includes reviewing and resolving complaints of violations involving the misuse of buildings, vehicles, and property; and do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This classification is part of a three-level flexibly staffed series located in the Planning Department of the Community Development Agency (CDA) and reports to the Senior Code Enforcement Officer. Upon completion of one (1) year as a Code Enforcement Officer I, employees are evaluated for potentially flexing up to Code Enforcement Officer II once departmental and program policies and procedures are learned and demonstrated proficiency of the position requirements.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
EITHER I
Experience:
One (1) year of full-time experience in the classification of Planning Technician I or an equal or higher classification in the Alameda County Community Development Agency’s Planning Department.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time increasingly responsible, professional experience in code enforcement or investigative work for a public agency in zoning, law enforcement, building inspection, or health inspection, directly dealing with related complaints from the public.
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Special Requirements:
Employees may be required to attend meetings, events, and conduct work in the course of performing their duties in evenings and on weekends.
