DESCRIPTION

This classification specification describes the advanced journey-level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer flexibly staffed series. Under general direction, Code Enforcement Officer III performs the advanced-journey level functions related to office and field investigation work, and act as a lead in the training, instructing, and directing of lower-level enforcement officers. Code Enforcement Officers are primarily responsible for the office and field investigation work involved in conducting inspections and enforcing codes and ordinances for property related to use, maintenance and safety of land and structures, the enforcement of codes and ordinances including, but not limited to zoning, subdivision, neighborhood preservation, abandoned vehicles, sign amortization and substandard conditions. Investigative work includes reviewing and resolving complaints of violations involving the misuse of buildings, vehicles, and property; and do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This classification is part of a three-level flexibly staffed series located in the Planning Department of the Community Development Agency (CDA) and reports to the Senior Code Enforcement Officer. This classification is distinguished from the Senior Code Enforcement Officer in that the latter has full supervisory responsibility of the day-to-day operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of one (1) -year of full-time experience in the classification of Code Enforcement Officer II or Planner II in the Alameda County Community Development Agency’s Planning Department.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in investigative work for a public agency in code enforcement, zoning, law enforcement, building inspections, health inspections, or related field.
OR III
The equivalent of four (4) years full-time experience work dealing directly with complaints from the public or enforcing codes, regulations, and/or standards.
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Special Requirements:
Employees may be required to attend meetings, events, and conduct work in the course of performing their duties in evenings and on weekends.
