DESCRIPTION
|
Under close supervision, assists craftsmen and sub-journeymen in performance of rough and finished carpentry work in the maintenance, repair and construction of wooden structures, and to perform related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Carpenter Assistants assist Carpenters or Building Maintenance Men in the maintenance, repair and construction of cabinets, buildings and other structures. The next lower class of Laborer is assigned most of the non-skilled laboring duties such as packing, lifting, and moving heavy objects and digging holes and ditches. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Acts as a semi-skilled assistant to a Carpenter or Building Maintenance Man. 2. Constructs shelves and simple cabinets and does rough carpentry work as directed; makes repairs to furniture, roofs, window screens, doors, and stairwells. 3. Uses hand tools and power equipment common to the carpentry trade. 4. Reconstructs damaged walls and ceilings by removing old partitions and plaster. 5. Drives a truck in the performance of regular duties; and may perform janitor’s services as required. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year of experience as a Laborer in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II The equivalent of two years of experience as a laborer in construction, maintenance or craft shop work. Or III Some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience. License: Must have possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
