DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, to maintain and repair high voltage lines carrying power to a large County institution; to maintain standby generators; to do inside electrical maintenance and repair work; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Positions in the class of Electrician - Lineworker differ from EIectricians in that in addition to performing the duties characteristic of the latter class, incumbents are required to maintain high voltage power lines, their supporting structures, and related equipment as a primary work assignment. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Climbs poles to clean or replace insulators and transformers and do other maintenance work on high voltage lines. 2. Checks poles for proper guying, weakened cross arms, and loose hardware, replacing parts and poles if necessary. 3. Maintains 600 volt street arc light system. 4. Lays out and installs new electrical construction both interior and exterior. 5. Cleans, maintains and repairs transformers, generators, motors and similar equipment. 6. Maintains and repairs electric appliances such as washing machines and sewing machines. 7. Keeps all telephones (on the interior system), intercoms, loud speakers, burglar and fire alarms in working order. 8. Uses, maintains and repairs arc welders. 9. Supervises and instructs prison inmates on jobs and in repair shops. 10. Makes estimates for yearly budget. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Education and Training: Completion of an accredited apprenticeship in electrician - lineworker trade, And Experience: The equivalent of two years of journey-level experience as an electrician - lineworker working on high voltage lines. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required in all positions in this class. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |

Knowledge of: • The methods, tools, materials and equipment used in the electrician - lineworker's trade. • The principles of electricity. • Safety practices, particularly in high voltage line work. Abilities: • Doing high voltage line work under adverse weather conditions. • Planning and installing electrical circuits. • Repairing eIectrical appliances and equipment. • Using the tools and equipment of the electrician - lineworker's trade with skill. • Instructing and supervising inmate help. |
