DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, to perform the work of a journey-level plumber; including installing, maintaining, and repairing gas, steam, plumbing and relaxed fixtures, pipes, and fittings in structures; and to do other related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
Positions in this classification are located in the General Services Agency (GSA) and reports to a Buildings and Plant Maintenance Supervisor. The Plumber is distinguished from the next higher classification of Buildings and Plant Maintenance Supervisor in that the latter has supervisory responsibility over a group of employees in the following classifications: Automatic Guided Vehicle Technician, Building Equipment Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance Laborer, Electrician, Plumber, and/or Stationary Engineer. Furthermore, the Buildings and Plant Maintenance Supervisor has oversight over the day-to-day operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of building and plant equipment for a group of County buildings or a large medical or detention institution. Whereas a Plumber is responsible for performing work related to the plumbing system.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
Education and Training:
EITHER I
Completion of a four (4)-year apprenticeship in the plumbing trade
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience as a journey-level plumber.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of five (5) years of full-time experience as a plumber.
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license for all patterns listed above.
Certification:
Possession of a valid Backflow Preventer Testing Certificate within twelve (12) months of employment for all patterns listed above.
Physical Characteristics:
May require heavy lifting, working from a ladder and working in a confined area.
Special Requirement:
Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
