Under supervision, to drive a library delivery van, perform related library clerical duties and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Incumbents in the class of Library Driver-Clerk drive the Library delivery van throughout the Bay Area. Incumbents sort, load, and unload heavy library materials, bulky supplies, equipment and furniture, as well as perform clerical duties. This class is distinguished from Bookmobile Driver-Clerk in that the latter drives the bookmobile and performs clerical duties with extensive public contact. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Drives a light or medium duty delivery van for pick-up and delivery of library materials, supplies, furniture and equipment to libraries, county agencies/departments and vendors on a regularly scheduled delivery or on a special delivery. 2. Loads and unloads delivery vehicles. Sorts, receives and prepares for shipment of library materials, supplies, mail and equipment. 3. Delivers, moves and positions furniture and other heavy objects as needed. 4. Checks fuel, oil, water and the general mechanical condition of Library fleet vehicles. Schedules vehicles for cleaning and mechanical service. 5. Requisitions general library office supplies using a PC; checks incoming merchandise for accuracy and condition; monitors stock levels and usage. 6. Types or prepares orders/requisitions; performs general office work such as filing and copying; uses standard office equipment, common hand tools, hand dollies and platform trucks. 7. Operates high volume duplicating machines to produce and control the production of memos, forms, art flyers and other copy productions. Types requisitions, files, and maintains central form/art work control system and copier statistics. Operates related equipment such as hole drillers, paper cutters and padding equipment. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Experience: The equivalent of six months full-time as a Library Page or equivalent or higher classification within Alameda County. OR II The equivalent of one year full-time experience in supply, inventory or clerical experience. Operation of a commercial passenger motor vehicle or light duty van is desirable. License: All candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license and a good driving record. Special Requirement: Ability to lift/move heavy packages, books, library materials, up to 75 pounds. Ability to work under different job conditions. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
