DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, to issue pool cars; to assign, supervise and inspect routine minor servicing and parking of passenger vehicles; to personally perform this work; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

The Auto Service Worker Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for the work of approximately eight employees who are rotated monthly to different locations and shifts on the basis of a schedule developed by the garage superintendent.

When these employees are assigned to: 1) The Oakland Garage, the Auto Service Worker Supervisor assigns them to routine floor services, which he personally supervises and to minor shop services, which the auto mechanic foreman supervises, 2) the public parking lot, he periodically inspects lot conditions and gives instructions accordingly, 3) the evening shift, he assigns work which he inspects the following day.

The incumbent reports to the auto mechanic foreman who furnishes day-to-day supervision.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Issues pool cars to drivers and departments from the Oakland Garage; maintains related records.

2. Assigns and supervises the routine floor services which include the gassing, oiling, parking, shuttling. and storage of passenger vehicles.

3. Assigns minor shop services which include the lubrication, muffler installation, washing, and the replacement, repair, and balancing of wheels and tires of passenger vehicles.

4. Dispatches Auto Service Worker Supervisor to render minor emergency road service, to pick up parts and materials, and to deliver vehicles.

5. Periodically inspects the premises of approximately nine County parking lots for cleanliness and operational efficiency; makes daily issues of parking receipts for use on the public lot.

6. Periodically inventories or checks the stock of standard low-cost auto parts, cleaning supplies, mechanics tools, gas, and oil; reports shortages to the auto mechanic foreman; orders supplies when necessary.

7. Schedules the washing of County vehicles.

8. Solicits repair bids on damaged County vehicles.

9. Trains and supervises Auto Service Worker Supervisor following the instructions of the garage superintendent.

10. Keeps all necessary records involved in performance of routine Auto Service Worker Supervisor services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either I

The equivalent of two years of experience in the class of Auto Service Worker Supervisor in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)

Or II
Education:

Completion of the eighth grade,

And

Experience:

The equivalent of three years of recent full-time, paid experience in the servicing and maintenance of passenger vehicles.

Or III

Some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience.

License:

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of:

• The tools, methods, and equipment used in the minor servicing and maintenance of passenger vehicles.
• Proper methods of cleaning garages and vehicles.


Ability to:

• Supervise and instruct Auto Service Worker Supervisor.
• Work harmoniously with the public and County personnel.
• Maintain a stock of standard low-cost garage supplies.
• Drive passenger vehicles with skill and safety.
• Do minor automotive maintenance and servicing.
