Under general supervision, to grease, service, and make minor repairs on heavy equipment such as tractors, graders, and trucks; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Heavy Equipment Oiler-Greasers, under supervision of the Heavy Equipment Shop Supervisor, grease, service, and make minor repairs on heavy equipment that is generally located out in the field. They are distinguished from Heavy Equipment Mechanics by not being assigned to diagnose or perform major repairs on heavy equipment. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Receives daily written and verbal work orders; drives a service truck to deliver fuel, oil, and grease to equipment in the field; services equipment, draining and changing oil, changing filters, cleaning air filters and breathers, and checking and replenishing lubricant in rear ends, transmissions and gear boxes. 2. Fills out service reports on equipment and daily materials consumption and time reports. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of one year of full-time experience working in the class of Heavy Equipment Mechanic Helper or Heavy Truck Driver in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II Experience: The equivalent of two years of recent paid, full-time experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Helper or Heavy Equipment Oiler. License: Possession of a valid State of California Class A Operator's license with all endorsements. Special Requirement: Federal law and County policy requires that positions in the class of Heavy Equipment Oiler-Greaser are subject to post-offer/pre-placement/pre-duty, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |

Knowledge of: • Preventive maintenance methods. • Basic principles of routine operation and minor repair of heavy construction equipment. Ability to: • Drive trucks and heavy equipment to work areas. • Use tools and equipment skillfully in the performance of duties. • Work harmoniously with supervisory and operating personnel in servicing heavy equipment. • Follow written and oral instructions. • Prepare simple reports. |
