DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, to work with a small crew of Laborers in painting lined and worded traffic control markings on pavement; to install traffic warning signs; to paint guards, barricades, raised traffic bars and similar devices; and to do related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Receives daily work assignment from the Lead Traffic Painter; frequently drives a light truck to the job and provides direction and works with small crew engaged in traffic painting work; operates painting unit on striper. 2. Measures and places center lines, crosswalks and other line markings by using a tape measure and cords; directs placement of painting equipment and signal flags at job site; operates a stencil truck or directs its operation in painting line marking on pavement. 3. Directs and assists in stencil painting pedestrian legends, school legends, stop legends and other word traffic markings on pavement and special treatments. 4. Provides direction and assists in painting parking zones and colored curbs to indicate parking restrictions. 5. Provides direction and assists in the installation of traffic warning and speed control signs. 6. Provides direction and assists in painting traffic guard rails, barricades, raised pavement markers, and other devices. 7. Maintains and makes repairs to equipment, spray guns, and stencils. 8. Makes routine daily diary entries and reports of work completed. 9. May be required to paint or provide direction for the painting of corporation yard buildings, road equipment, wooden bridges and similar items. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Experience: The equivalent of six months full-time experience as a Laborer in the Traffic Safety section or the equivalent of 6 months full-time experience as a Traffic Sign Worker in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.) Or II The equivalent of two years’ full time experience in traffic painting. License: Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Class C Driver's License. Candidates must submit evidence from the DMV showing current status of their license at the time of application and must have a clean driving record for the previous three-year period. NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. |
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of: • Use and maintenance of spray guns, brushes, stencils and other traffic painting equipment. • Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code as they apply to traffic painting operations. • Safety procedures and practices. Ability to: • Provide direction and guidance for a small crew in the use of traffic painting equipment. • Measure and place traffic line markings accurately. • Follow oral and written instructions. • Prepare simple reports. |
