DESCRIPTION
|
Under general supervision, to maintain and repair County owned and operated drawbridges, storm water lift stations and associated equipment and facilities, including but not limited to mechanical systems, electrical systems, water discharge systems, and building operations systems, and to perform related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Positions in this class function at the journey-level and are expected to work with minimal supervision. Reporting to a Bridge and Pump Supervisor, incumbents in these positions must be able to perform assigned maintenance and repairs on moveable drawbridge spans and storm water lift stations, and work safely under various working conditions. Employees in this class make decisions concerning the quality of the work performed; and make recommendations for necessary repairs, equipment modifications and installation of projects. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed. 2. Performs skilled welding on movable spans and storm water lift stations using various metals and alloys. 3. Performs fabrication and repairs on structural members, brackets, frames, pump installations, tanks, panels, tools, shafts, steel stairways, catwalks, ladders, gear covers, and railings. 4. Installs, replaces, and repairs water lines, pumps, plumbing, and piping associated with bridge and storm water lift stations. 5. Performs steel reinforcement work, and patches cement curbs and railings. 6. Preserves and maintains movable spans and storm water lift stations by cleaning and painting structural members and other essential surfaces. 7. Prepares rigging; erects platform and staging, hoists other materials to effect repairs. 9. Performs repairs and modifications to, and installation of electrical equipment requiring the ability to work from complex blueprints and schematics. 10. Inspect, diagnose and perform major and minor repair work on various types of engines, electric motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves and related equipment. 11. Maintains records of repairs and preventive maintenance documentations at all facilities. Requisitions supplies for bridge towers and storm water lift station operations and equipment repair. 12. Troubleshoots electrical malfunctions on DC rectifiers, VFDs, controls and motors, traffic controls, pneumatic systems and electrical control and power systems up to 480 VAC, 3-phase, and 0 to 48VDC. 13. Performs general machine shop work requiring skill with a wide variety of machine tools, such as power lathes, drill presses, and grinders, and uses welding, brazing and soldering equipment. 14. Completes daily and weekly timekeeping paperwork. 15. Interfaces, tests, troubleshoots and repairs Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, communication equipment, level transducers, programmable logic controllers, etc. using County supplied equipment. 16. Uses computer systems to generate/update preventive maintenance service requests/reports. 17. May train, instruct, and/or direct the work of other maintenance personnel, as directed. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
The equivalent of three years full-time experience in the class of Building Equipment Maintenance Worker or an equivalent or higher level class in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts) performing related work. Or II The equivalent of four years full-time experience in the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of heavy industrial electrical, mechanical, plumbing, control systems, engines and pumps. License (required for all patterns): Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Class C Driver's License. Candidates must submit evidence from the DMV showing current status of their license at the time of application and must have a clean driving record for the previous three-year period. Special Requirements: • Must have normal hearing and eyesight, including depth perception and freedom from color and night blindness. • Must comply with County and Cal OSHA policies, procedures, and guidelines (such as Respiratory Protection). Working Conditions: • Work in all weather, around heavy traffic, and large construction machinery. • Work underground and inside confined space areas. • Work in open steel structures at heights up to 180 feet and pit areas 40 feet below estuary level. • Subject to be on-call 24 hours in order to respond to emergency situations and must actively participate in the program. This will require being on standby duty. • Work around potentially hazardous movable working equipment. • Subject to climbing, working from heights, bending, stooping, and lifting of heavy objects.
