DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, installs, maintains, programs, calibrates, repairs and replaces digital and analog electrical equipment, machinery, switchgear, controllers and associated equipment and instrumentation used in power and mechanical control systems; coordinates the activities of energy efficiency projects of the General Services Agency; monitors the activities and progress of consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, vendors and suppliers; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES The Energy Management Technician is located in the Building Maintenance Department of the General Services Agency and reports to the Energy Program Manager. The incumbent has primary responsibility for maintaining and programming all power and mechanical control systems and related equipment and instruments used in water supply, commercial, institutional, detention, disposal and related facilities. This Energy Management Technician is distinguished from the Energy Project Manager in that the latter has responsibility for development and implementation of energy saving projects. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Maintains and troubleshoots control systems and ancillary equipment related to distributed energy resources (DER) including, but not limited to, solar electric, solar thermal, micro-grids, fuel cell plants systems and storage technologies. 2. Assist Building Maintenance personnel, Technical Services personnel, project managers and related personnel in the performance of their tasks related to power and mechanical control systems. 3. Monitors and coordinates activities of consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, vendors and suppliers, and coordinates their efforts with other County departments. 4. Participates in on-site pre-bid and project job walks with County personnel, contractors, and manufacturers. 5. Troubleshoots, maintains and installs power, mechanical and water controls, control wiring, instruments, meters, data acquisition equipment, including programming, editing and creating graphic pages, and related equipment. 6. Maintains a preventative maintenance program that includes written records and logs, programming, cleaning, adjustments, visual inspections, minor repairs and calibrations necessary to maintain equipment, instruments, testing equipment, wiring and associated hardware. 7. Reviews written operational manuals and procedures relating to safe and proper operations, maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance standards of power and mechanical control equipment. 8. Orders equipment, replacement parts and services, and maintains accurate records of purchases and parts from vendors and manufacturers. 9. Provides consultation and assists in training of BMD staff and other employees in procedures related to working with power and mechanical controls. 10. Assures that tasks and duties performed comply with safety procedures. |
